I have two laptops one is installed Ubuntu and the other with Vista. Both are same model with Wi-Fi enabled.
Is it possible to connect the two using wire-less technology, PEER to PEER to have shared files? I don’t have any Access point configured.

I want to setup a VNC repeater on a Linux server that has a public static IP so that I can connect and reverse connect two computers behind firewalls I don’t have access to control. How would I set this up?

I have a Debian 4.0 server and I have a public /29 subnet on a 3 Mb down 678 Kb up DSL connection. I also want to give my Mom tech support, but I would rather have VNC repeat through the DMZ to my private subnet rather than give my PC a public IP.
What can you do when Ubuntu is installed on your PS3 that you couldn’t do before? Can you do anything you like on the net? (firefox) etc

I would like to migrate a Windows 2000 Server to a Debian linux as server, and want to know if the Linux can build up a Domain, like de Windows’ AD does, with the profile support abilities, centralized account manager, etc.
I’ve heard that it’s not possible, that I could only build a Workgroup, and the windows clients (with local accounts) could access the server’s network folders providing the credentials (another ones, stored at the linux server). (but if both of them were equal, user/pass, it would me automatic and transparent to the user).
But the windows profiles accounts I’ve heard that isnt possible with a linux server, so Samba couldn’t support saving the user profile data at the server, and syncronizing it automatically at logon/logoff time, also don’t allowing the user to logon in another machine and having his current profile automatically loaded.
In this network users does use some of these capabilities, but I’d like more having a Linux as a server.
Is it possible?
i have an ubuntu pc that doesnt have internet and i have a wireless router so what i want is to connect my ubuntu pc to internet using my smartphone windows mobile 6 which connects to the wireless and then share the connection to the ubuntu pc via usb! can be done? my phone has usb RNDIS options.. thanks
I have a Linksys WRT54GS router and two Windows PCs hooked up to that. On a third machine, I removed Windows and installed Ubuntu 6 instead (Edgy). I must say that I do like Linux! Is there any way I can get my new Linux box to hookup to my existing home network?
If not, is there a way I can put all three of the machines on a single home network (ideally wireless because of where they’re located in the house; different floors and such).
I’m open to various options (hub, switch, whatever).
