I’m about to get Linux but I’m not sure which distribution I should get. It’ll be for my personal use, not commercial. I’ve been looking at Debian and Ubuntu because I’ve heard a lot about them. So which one should I get?

Can you download windows media player 11 with the operating system “ubuntu”?
Windows media player can be downloaded to your computer if you have windows xp but i don’t. There’s another operating system called ubuntu. If anyone is using ubuntu can you tell me if you can download wmp11.

I don’t want a distribution that installs things like Flash or Skype on my computer.
I don’t want a distribution which ships with a bunch of proprietary applications like Adobe Acrobat.
I want a distribution that is easy to install new software.
I want a distribution which encourages people to alter and improve the software.
I want a distribution which does not distribute proprietary software.
So far I have tried Ubuntu, Xandros, Debian and OpenSuse. I have not been impressed with any of them. Please do not recommend these.
how do i run windows xp aplications in linux-ubuntu without using wine evry time?
I upgraded windows xp to Linux-Ubuntu but I want to run programs like a game that is made for xp or yahoo messinger wich is for xp in Linux-Ubuntu without using a wine file? I love this system but if I cant get things working I cant have it. Any ideas?
