I am talking about that Logitech mouse with the ball-bearing scroll wheel and the thumb wheel.

I am running Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon with the compiz-fusion setup. I would like to know how well the mouse features work or if I will need to do any special setup. Ubuntu is usually pretty good with hardware, but I just want to make sure it will work.

Please read the following first.

I don’t want a distribution that installs things like Flash or Skype on my computer.

I don’t want a distribution which ships with a bunch of proprietary applications like Adobe Acrobat.

I want a distribution that is easy to install new software.

I want a distribution which encourages people to alter and improve the software.

I want a distribution which does not distribute proprietary software.

So far I have tried Ubuntu, Xandros, Debian and OpenSuse. I have not been impressed with any of them. Please do not recommend these.

I upgraded windows xp to Linux-Ubuntu but I want to run programs like a game that is made for xp or yahoo messinger wich is for xp in Linux-Ubuntu without using a wine file? I love this system but if I cant get things working I cant have it. Any ideas?

I don’t know much about ubuntu beryl or how it work. But I saw some video of the ubuntu beryl stuff on youtube. And it looks awesome. Is there any software that can make xp looks like ubuntu beryl?

Whenever I download any software for Linux, I find different binaries for different distros like Debian, Mandrake, Solaris, etc.

However, very often I have found that the same binary is present for both Red Hat and Fedora Core?

Is there any similarity between Red Hat and Fedora Core?
